The historic event of the stay of the Tsar Nicholas I of Russia and his family in Palermo in 1845 and the encounter between two different cultures is the starting point for the «Renella Project».
The project and all the activities related to it will be held in Saint Petersburg, from July to October 2021, and in Moscow, from November 2021 to January 2022.
This large-scale project aims to continue the prosperous cultural dialogue between Italy and Russian, through the realisation of a new site-specific installation by Domenico Pellegrino and the organisation of many cultural collateral events which highlight also the «Italian Excellences in Russia».
Given the thematic occasion of the project, it was decided to entrust to the contemporary Sicilian artist with the reproduction, to scale and using the intense identity technique of «luminarie», of the architectural profile of the «Tenuta dei Quattro Pizzi all'Arenella»: Quattro Pizzi, designed in neo-Gothic style «under the Florio Empire» by the architect Carlo Giachery , enchanted so much Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna that she wanted an exact reproduction in wood in the Imperial Park of Peterhof, now lost. With its 15 meters high and 9 meters on each side, Pellegrino's suggestive architecture «Renella» illuminates the past and makes visible again what has been lost over the centuries.
